A couple of years ago, I started a quest to find the perfect-fitting t-shirt—comfortable, flattering, and tailored to my shape without feeling too tight or too loose. After trying about a dozen brands, including some offering custom fits (is it custom if they don’t use your actual measurements?), I was continually disappointed. And I soon found out I wasn’t alone.

As a serial entrepreneur who already owned an online clothing boutique, I started thinking about creating something new—a brand that genuinely catered to different body shapes and sizes. My daughter Sara, a fashion designer, joined me, turning this idea into a fun project we could share. Initially, we thought sizing by shoulder width and offering several shape variations might solve the problem, but managing inventory for so many options seemed unrealistic.

We realized we needed to find a way to make each shirt individually to order, though initially this felt impossible. But we kept working the problem, determined to find a solution. Sara discovered automatic pattern-making software and precision laser-cutting equipment, enabling us to rapidly generate unique patterns for each shirt, cut with precision. We developed proprietary formulas to combine customer measurements and personal fit preferences, and paired these with our new technology—finally making true custom-fit shirts possible.

But, we faced another challenge: getting accurate measurements at home was harder than we thought. After testing countless apps, devices, and even creating our own measuring tool, we finally discovered software that delivered the precision we needed—making the final piece of the puzzle fall into place.

Now, after testing and refining our shirts with many friends and colleagues, we’re thrilled to invite you to experience Metric. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve created and hope you love wearing your perfect-fit tee as much as I do.
